Obituary for Cynthia Kerr

Cynthia  Kerr
Cynthia J. “Cindy” Kerr, age 70, of Webb City, Mo., passed away on Monday May 7, 2018, at National Healthcare, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Cindy was born on May 6, 1948 in Santa Ana, Ca., the daughter of the late Darrell E. Sour and Barbara (Huddleston) Sour. She graduated from Seneca High School a member of the class of 1966. She received a B.S. degree from MSSC. She taught Physical Education for Diamond High School in 1970 and 1971. She served in the United States Air Force from 1975 to 1979 and attained the rank of Staff Sargent. Following the military, Cindy worked for Cardinal Scale Manufacturing. She has been a lifelong supporter of the Girl Scouts and was a counselor at Camp Mintahama. She was an excellent athlete and coach. She played softball for many years starting at the age of eight. At the age of forty she was awarded the MVP of the Industrial League. She also was a 175 point scratch bowler. She was an avid K.C. Chiefs and K.C. Royals fan. In 1990 Cindy suffered a massive stroke and was no longer able to work. Her great strength, tenacity and hard work helped to recover from the stroke and became very independent.

While out and about in the neighborhood one day in her wheel chair, Cindy met the love of her life, Von Kerr. They were married on January 10, 2009 in the Church where Cindy had been a member since 1985, Faith & New Hope Church of Carterville.

Cindy is survived by; her husband Von Kerr, Webb City, Mo.; three sisters, Angelia DeWitt and husband Bob, Rogers, Ar., Brenda Holt and husband Louis, Mt. Vernon, Mo., and Elaina Soper and husband John, Gravette, Ar.; a sister-in-law, Lori York and husband Mike, Joplin; three step-daughters, Kim Douglas and husband David, Toronto, Ks., Kristi Hudgens and husband Marshall, Ponca City, Ok., and Michelle Kerr-Elliot and husband Terry, Rockport, Tx.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four nieces; six nephews; two great-nieces; six great-nephews; two aunts; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Darrell K. Sour.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Faith & New Hope Church of Carterville. Pastor B.J. Hutchinson and Keith Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Vinita, Ok. The pallbearers will be David Douglas, Marshall Hudgens, Terry Elliot, John Soper, Christopher Holt, and Darrell R. Sour.

The visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to Avalon Hospice in care of the mortuary.
