Anthony R. “Tony” Schmitt, age 58, of Joplin, passed away on Monday March 26, 2018 at his home, following an illness.

Tony was born on February 20, 1960 in Norwalk, Ca., the son of the late Jerry Schmitt and Patricia (Patton) Schmitt. He has lived in Joplin most of his life. He worked as a car salesman and mechanic for Steve Cupp Auto for thirty-three years. For the past three years he worked for Eagle Creek Golf Course as a mechanic.

He married Gail Green on August 26, 2005 in Miami, Okla., and she survives. He is also survived by one daughter, Lisa Schmitt, Joplin; two step daughters, Shannan English, Joplin, and Hollie Sterling, Webb City, Mo.; two brothers, Michael Schmitt, Joplin, and Harold Fairchild, Jr., Ragland, Al.; two sisters, Becky Fairchild and Gayla Fairchild, both of Ragland, Al.; one grandchildren, Journey Schmitt; five step grandchildren, Kylie, Kayla, Nakota, Alyx, and Logan; and one great-grandchild, Callie.

Tony will be cremated with no services planned.
