Obituary for M. Louise Fields (Cord)

M. Louise Fields (Cord)
Margaret Louise Cord Fields

Louise was the daughter of Alva and Elizabeth (Ravellette) Cord. She was born in Wichita, April 6, 1922. She died at her home in Pittsburg, December 4, 2016.

During World War II she worked at Boeing in Wichita, doing sheet metal work in the B-29 assembly plants. In 1944 she made a commitment to lifetime Christian service and enrolled in San Jose Bible College. She graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Theology.

While attending college she met Wilbur Fields from Hugoton, Kansas. They became better acquainted riding the train between California and Kansas and were married in 1948. Together they ministered to churches in LaCygne, Kansas; Syracuse, Kansas; Grove, Oklahoma; and Oregon, Missouri. In 1965 they moved to Joplin, where Wilbur served as a professor at Ozark Christian College.

Louise had a special connection with children and taught Sunday school at North Joplin Christian Church for many years. You would find her packing cookies and milk and cutting out cards and stickers for the kids. She was affectionately known as “Aunt Lou”.

Louise worked tirelessly as the mother of four and a minister’s wife. She loved to laugh and sing and enjoyed writing, travel, and her pets. She worked at Walt’s Shoes, started her own neighborhood grocery store, and retired from JC Penney.

Survivors are her husband, Wilbur Fields, Joplin; her children, Elaine Fields, Olive Branch, Miss., Murray Fields, Pittsburg, Marlon and Laurie Fields, St. Louis, George and Marcia Weeks, Pittsburg; a granddaughter, Sharalyn Louise Fields, St. Louis; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sisters, June Hinshaw and Marjorie Nelson; her step-father, Frank Wilkinson; and step-brother, Duane Wilkinson. She is greatly missed by her family and friends.

Marcia Weeks, daughter, 620-231-6977 and Murray Fields, son, 620-719-8098.
