Obituary for Herbert Lyle "Herbie" King

Herbert Lyle "Herbie" King
Herbert “Herbie” Lyle King, age 80, of Joplin, passed away on Saturday March 12, 2016 at Joplin Gardens, following an illness.
Lyle was born on October 7, 1935, in Jenny Lind, Ark., the son of the late John Bee King and Stella Ioda (Hutsell) King. He has been a Joplin resident most of his adult life. He served in the United States Naval Reserves. In 1957, he went to work as a first class lineman for Empire District Electric. He retired from Empire in 1995 after thirty-eight years of service as an estimator. He was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church.
He married Joyce Liter Holland on August 7, 1971, together they raised their blended family. Lyle loved spending time with his family. He coached three different sports at the Boys & Girls Club. He enjoyed camping, bowling, and golf. He loved animals and he especially enjoyed riding around on his new lawn mower. Lyle lived a full, wonderful and loving life. He was always there for family, friends and even strangers. His smile, his jokes always seemed to uplift everyone. He was loved and will be missed daily by his family and friends.
Lyle is survived by: his wife, Joyce King, Joplin; one son, David Lee King and wife Laura Ann, Joplin; one daughter, Cindy Lee King, Joplin; one step-son, Ricky Edward Holland, Seneca, Mo.; three grandchildren, Joshua David King and wife Shelby, Mark Edward Holland and wife Lauren, and Trena Denee Mayfield and husband Timothy; and six great-grandchildren, Kallie King, Josiah King, Cora King, Max Holland, Liam Holland, and Presley Mayfield. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Eva, Nellie, Ruth and Lois; and by five brothers, John, Gene Alvin, Edward, and Lloyd.
A Memorial visitation will be held 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be given to Christ Community United Methodist Church or the Boys & Girls Club of Joplin in care of the mortuary.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff and employees of Joplin Gardens, Dr. Larry Deffenbaugh and Dr. John Tyler for their support and care over the last few weeks. A special thank you to Stephanie Holland for her excellent and loving care of our dad during his illness with their special bond being; Love You “MORE”.
